Lady Gaga Joins Lisa Kudrow On ‘Smelly Cat’ During ‘Friends’ Reunion

Lady Gaga joined Lisa Kudrow to perform the memorable “Friends” song “Smelly Cat” during the “Friends: The Reunion Special” which premiered on HBO Max on Thursday (May 27).

Ben Winston, who produced and directed the reunion special, told Variety that he first asked Lisa if she would be prepared to sing the song and she said, “Yeah, that would be fun.”

“We went through a few names, and we both agreed that Gaga, if we could get her, would be the ultimate one because she associates with and feels close to Phoebe in so many ways,” Winston said. “Lady Gaga jumped at the chance to do it.”

“Yeah, don’t get too excited. I haven’t done this in a long time,” Kudrow warned the cheering crowd before saying to herself, “I should be Phoebe for this. OK!”

Lady Gaga, clad in a very Phoebe outfit, asked Kudrow, “You need some help?” before joining her. “I love ‘Smelly Cat!’ It’s one of my favorite songs. You mind if I take ‘Smelly Cat’ for a spin?”

Gaga, who earned a “not bad!” from Kudrow after lending her professional touch to the song, said, “Thank you so much for being the person for all of us on Friends that was the — I don’t know if this is the right way to say it — but the different one, or the one that was really herself.”
